The Automatic Thoughts session of Tranquility Online explains the difference between thoughts and feelings, how they both fit into the cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) process, and how thoughts can affect depression. It also explains what automatic thoughts are and how they can contribute to anxious or depressive symptoms. A short quiz will test your knowledge at the end of this section.
The Thought Journals section helps you to practice identifying automatic thoughts and track them in a thought journal, in order to manage your depression. The session has you identify the situation that you are in, your feelings about it, and any thoughts that you are having. This helps you to understand the thought-feeling connection that can worsen a low mood. Tranquility Online has a thought journal tool that you can use anywhere, which is unlocked after the session is completed.
The Tranquility Tips section teaches you how to get specific about your thoughts, ask questions about them, and identify the ones that contribute most to your depression.
The Thinking Traps section describes what a thinking trap is and how to identify if your thoughts are falling into one. It includes common thinking traps to be wary of, as well as detailed examples of thinking traps and alternative balanced thoughts. A short quiz will test your knowledge at the end of this section.
The Your Tranquility Task section outlines an assignment for you to complete over one week. It explains what to focus on, as well as practical suggestions for completing the task successfully. It also explains where to find the Thought Journal in Tranquility, which will always be available after the completion of this section.
